vw golf tdi mk4 - derek
hi im thinking of getting an early mk4 tdi golf not bothered which engine as long as its diesel.
does anybody have any thoughts or experiences of the car, should i hold on and buy a later one ideally i want to spend 3-4k
my wife absolutely loves them , and buying a car is cheaper than hiring a lawyer

Two points: firstly I think you will be doing well to get one in your price range. Secondly make sure you do get the TDi and not the SDi which is not turbocharged, hence slower and surprisingly I have heard not as economical.

Yeah, 3-4k wont get you a decent one of these, they go for more than that on ebay, quickly too if theres a buy it now option! Have you considered a Bora? I reckon they look better, a cracking TDi 100 PD 2001 '51' went on ebay recently for 4k. Agree with above, give SDi a wide berth, no more economical, but a whole lot slower!! You will also find that even if you get lucky in this price range, it will have 150k + mileage.
