A friend of mine has got a 1995 Rover 827. The car is in great condition and having driven it I think the 2.7 V6 is one of the most underated V6 engines out there. (Much better than the KV6)
The car has been reliable over the last two years except for an annoying intermittent fault with the electric windows and sunroof. Most of the time they work fine yet occasionally they will refuse to work either not opening at all or refusing to close once already opened. If the engine/ignition is switched off then restarted, all the electrics work correctly.
Where are the control relays located?
Many thanks in advance

Unfortunately the problem is more likely to be the Central Control Unit (CCU) located under the dash on the drivers side behind the fuse box. I had to replace this on one of my Rovers. What year is the car? There is a sequence to go through to reset the windows and sunroof.

....or the window/sunroof ECU under the passengers seat ;)

There is no window ecu under the seats. The ecu's under the seat are the vehicle monitor unit, Fuel interface unit and automatic transmision ecu if fitted.
If it is a series one car then the windows are controlled by relay packs in the doors. If it is a series two (facelift) car then the windows are controlled by the CCU under the dash. If the windows bleep when the buttons are pressed then it is the CCU telling you to reset the windows. This will happen if the battery has been disconnected.

A '95 car definitely has the CCU. They are not difficult to come by s/hand - plenty of 10-year-old 800-series in the breakers now!
I believe its the same unit in the 820 model.

I should change my glasses! Fancy asking the year when it is in the message in black and white. I agree Aprilia, the '95 car certainly does have the CCU. I have changed several. The spec does change however depending on the spec and year of the vehicle as I have experienced. They are however cheap. Viking breakers sell them for a tenner.

The CCU has a built in self diagnostic feature which is worth doing before binning it.

I dont know whether they improved this ECU. On the 87/90 model 827 they were a constant pain..It was often said the switches were the prob. but simple tests proved that to be wrong..

I agree, the switches are usually ok, its the pesky ECUs.

Thanks v8man, I will investigate further. One thing though, how does one reset the windows and or get the self diagnosis to run?
|
I will email you Spanner with the info as the explanation is quite long.
