Octavia air mass meter 1.8 20valve - Skody
I think my air mass meter might be broken. The car is missing and sometimes the engine nearly dies completely. I removed it
and drove round the block and it didn't make any any diffence.
If the air mass meter was working then would removing it make a difference? ie, if it is broken then the engine will be the same with or without it connected. Any comments appreciated

A common test for a faulty AMM is to disconnect it and test drive. If it is faulty an improvement in driveability is noticed. The EMS substitutes plausible values for the missing AMM output. If you notice no difference then the problem is likely to lie elsewhere, possibly faulty ignition coil or coils. The AMM on this model is,I think, dealer only and expensive. You would find the best solution is to have the EMS scanned by your dealer or an independent such as Tune Up mobile service.

Thanks Dave

I went to an independant garage and they sussed it straight away, even had a new meter on the shelf as they fail so often!
Also beware any other Skoda owners , the mechanic says the wiring looms aren't very good on these cars and a loose connection can cause the ecu to signal spurious faults that don't exist!

VAG are now offering an exchange system for these MAF sensors ,which makes the prices a little more sensible.
