and in 5 years your problem will be parts, rust and a nackered gear box.
|
I wouldn't worry about 5 years time. It'll be dead long before then.
If flatfour keeps up his mileage rate he will have done half a million miles in 5 years.
|
Davey, Please explain your problems with Hyundai. You have been very negative over several threads for no apparant reason and without owning one. Are you in the motor trade?
Look at the loads of 8 or 9 year old Elantras around in perfectly reasonable condition. You are making these assertions as to rust and parts without proof.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Given the warranties Hyunadi are offering I would expect them to be in good condition after 5 years. I have read that parts can be difficult to obtain, more related to accident damage replacement than servicing.

Is this based on your experience or hearsay ?
|
Hyundai's that suffer rust are all pre Finbarr O?Neill, the cars have been totally transformed in the last few years. As for gearboxes, it was a problem on the 2000 - 2002 Accent there are very few other problems otherwise.
|
It'll be fine after five years, or they wouldn't be offering such generous warranty terms.
They are excellent value, makes you question the anti SUV brigade if they could all be as economical as the Santa Fe/X-Trail/Touareg R5.
|
If my Trajet is as good is the flatfour's Santa Fe, i'm changing the CR-V for a Tucson next year. The only diesel auto small 4x4 apart from the Santa Fe.
IIRC the Santa Fe is permanent 4x4, whereas the Tucson is 2wd unless the fronts slip, when it sends torque to the rear.

All models of the Sante Fe sold in UK are 4wd but in the USA the majority are FWD only - with Auto box of course. The 3.5l seems to be the model of choice.
|
I looked around a Tucson a couple of weeks back and it seems a nice little 4x4. Not especially roomy inside, but well-finished and with the 'intelligent 4WD' it should be a good seller. Its also nicer looking than the Santa Fe which IMHO looks a bit bug-eyed and ugly.

right - beofre i start - i just typed a reply but the web page messed up and i lost it, so if im vauge in my second attempt - do forgive me.
I have owned over 5 hyundai/2 kia motors.
I have worked in and out of the trade on and off.
I currently own a hyundai and a kia.
I do like the cras (most bits).
I have had alot of experience both on a basic trade level (eg, selling, maintainance, finance) of hyundai and yet when at univeristy had a friend whos dad was a development engineer for hyundai (still vaugly in touch). Ok there are alot of good things hyundai do, but lots of cost cutting to (sure all manufactures are the same).
IIf somebody wants a car to do high mileage, over a 5 year period - the only car of any choice to consider is hyundai - its that simple.
If somebody wants a car to last 15 years, and be rust and trouble free - buy a toyota, dont buy hyundai.
And why - well, all hyundais (more so kia but still some models) rust or show signs of rust from 2 years old in the UK. (i actually seen on a ramp a 53 plate kia sedona which had terrible rust for its age!). I know for a fact, that hyundai only discussed rust proffing systems and sent out tenders in 2003! Its never been a concern in the home market.
Secondly, they still have gear box issues, especially surrounding reverse selector.
Thirdly, they have one of the highest parts list prices around. Quite strange form a manufacture where the cars cost pennies but the parts cost pounds. This also reflects on the insurance bands, as the getz insurance is slightly higher than alternatives overall.
Fourthly, security is appauling - still bno deadlocks option!
also, safety is minimal - dont dare crash in one, you will know about it.
Plus, every model i have driven in the range (ive had them all for long distances excpet the 4wd) have awful wind and cabin noise.
I understand esperda iii you are excited with your new purchase, which was a bargian and will be great for a while, but i question its condition in 5 years.
plus, you havent had the delight to deal with hyundai Uk - who are awful, absolute nightmare.
The hyundai dealer i used to do sell to - hated them.
i could talk all morning, but i have accounts to do!

Hang on a minute, is the message above from the same 'DaveyK_UK' who posted the message below (about four months ago)?
"am i right to be pleasantly surprised that my recent purchase of a hyundai accent Yplate, shows signs of a car built far higher than the reputation gives credit for. Away from the image, and the boring dash, handling, etc. The car really does feel a whole lot better screwed together than the fiat punto, ford galaxy, suzuki alto and peugeout 206 i've had in the past 5 years."
The latest Hyundais are pretty good. They have improved a lot over the years and are selling well in the US, and Canada in particular, where customers are very demanding. The Kia Magentis (Optima in the US) does pretty well over there too. For the money, and with the warranty, they are good cars.
|
Aprilla,
Beat me to it!
Since then DaveyK has posted a series of posts knocking Hyundai -but as he's owned 5(plus many other makes) he should have learnt the error of his ways.
As I have posted before Hyundai are the top selling car in the part of the USA I visit and have a 5 year/100k warranty on the drive train and 10 years 'Bumper to Bumper' warranty.

im not knocking them - merely pointing out the facts.
hyundais rust faster compared to other rivals in the uk.
maybe in the usa - all the cars rust, then hyundai aint so bad after all!
and you aint telling me your safe in your trajet is safe in an accident? at best it would score a 2 star NCAP rating.
Plus, i wouldnt leave anything on show - easy to break into.
wait till that warranty runs out, whn you realise parts are as common as tony blair being truthful - you will soon bin off your korean rust tank.
yes they are good cars, but they have their faults! and the faults are more often manufactures short-comings rather than bad design.
|
the answer for hyundai and others eg, rover is simple.
if i could afford toyota, honda, bmw or audi - i would never buy hyundai.
|
and you aint telling me your safe in your trajet is safe in an accident? at best it would score a 2 star NCAP rating.
Trajet has a 3 star rating (OK its not great), check the web site at www.euroncap.com
Same score as VW Sharan, Nissan, Mitsubishi and better than the Voyager & Vauxhall Sintra.
|
shocking how for auch an expensive car - the voyager is so poor on safety. I wonder if any buyers realise?
I cant understand why crysler especially with it being built in austria plus the mercedes input lets it continue to be a black mark agaisnt a decent vehicle.
|
didnt finish...
because they are not to good value i couldnt say no (although the getz for £5.5k came close), their not unbelivably well built, they dont lead the way in technology and innovation, and their not very safe.
I wonder how many sales hyundai would have lost if they didnt introduce the 5 year warranty.
i know kia use cheaper components - but mainly the same. why dont they offer the 5 year?
|
Which Euroshed manufacturer would be brave enough to offer a 5 year warranty? No i can't think of one either.
|
Drove a Tucson diesel today. Vastly better than the Santa Fe, and better than a Freelander. Nice surprise. Cheap, too. HJ
HJ,
Will you be giving us more details ?
