Hi ant,
By your description, it sounds more like the injector pump itself rather than a lift pump.
If that is the case, the best place to go is to a diesel specialist - one where injectors and pumps are routinely overhauled. This type of work is beyond most non-specialist garages.

Spindle wear problem.
About £100-£150 to fix at a diesel injection specialist.

job fixed got a full pump unit from scrapyard bargen price £10

Sounds similar to my problem, fuel leaking out of the injector pump driveshaft. Which breakers did you get the pump from?

That's cheap, very cheap.
Is it any good? No real way of telling without fitting it and using it....
