A6 electrical oddity

A6 electrical oddity - Nsar
My 96 A6 has developed an odd fault which I hope isn't too exotic. It starts fine, but intermittently, I have electrical failure affecting everything bar the radio and hazards ie no indicators, air con, wipers etc. If i switch the engine off and fire it up again, everything is OK. Thoughts please.

Check that the ignition switch plactic body (which houses the electrical contacts) has not split.

It sounds similar to what I experienced.

So I would start with checking the fuse and holder first then on to switches.

Thanks Henry, I hope mine isn't quite such a saga but me and this car are about to fall out in a big way.....!
