Skoda head corrosion - Peter
A friend of mine has an "M" reg Skoda Felicia with either a 1.1 or 1.4 engine. It overheated last week and the garage man has stated that the head is badly corroded, it is a very common fault on these engines and it is very hard to obtain a new head or recon spare.

Can anyone help to locate a new/recon head. We are located near Swindon but I suppose he could pay transport costs.

TIA

There's a specialist VW breakers in Melksham who may be able to help. I've got parts from them in the past and they were good - was trim items, rather than mechanicals.

Tricky - I had a mare of a time getting parts for my Favorit, simply because they just keep on running and don't get scrapped. You could always try the national parts search lines from you yellow pages, scrap section. It'll cost about a quid a time.

Make sure you get exactly the right head though - the 'e' variants of the engine were higher compression/power than the bog-standard ones to give back some of the power robbed by the move to fuel injection + cat, so I imagine the structure might be tougher. Some cars were designated 'e' until around the year of yours, but after that they were all 'e' series so lost the extra letter on the bootlid.
