1997 2.0 16v - cooling system prob - teddym
i have a vauxhall omega 2lt 16v GLS...(1997 - R reg). the engine keeps overheating, even with the cooling fan on. Also keeps overheating with thermostat taken out. It only stops overheating when its on constant high rev. I've checked all possible faults....it's not loosing water, new thermostat, water not mixing with the oil. anyone got any ideas????

In which case the rad is blocked or the water pump is knackered. My money would be on the water pump. Start it up and check that all of the rad is getting hot - if not then try flushing it out. If it does get hot, or flushing makes no difference, change the water pump.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

the car was very hot but radiator was cold....flushed radiator out twice, now radiator gets very hot on top and slightly warm on bottom part. Car still overheating, fan cut's in ontime 92 degrees celsious but in my view it doesnt have enough power to cool engine....is this normal to have the fan move that slow on the omegas????

Radiator problems seem to be common on these, maybe the water is hard in Russelheim?
They are £200 for anew one and £80 to have recored.

Hello. Bought my X reg elite for the heated seats.

Drove a couple of hundred miles ok then the temp gauge went into red. RAC said nothing showing on computer but replace thermostat and sender unit. Had this done (pain of a job) but did same again. RAC said fan only kicking in intermittently. Its only doing it WHEILE ENGINE IS IDLING OR AT LOW REVS and if you keep driving the gauge returns to normal. Its had a new water pump. Thinking of having water pump replaced and heater bypass valve (suggested in another forum) done while the engine is in bits but worried. Am I damaging it while driving. Will this latest repair solve the problem? Any ideas welcome.

Definately not a head gasket problem. Water is moving through the system and its self bleeding so not an air lock in system plus system drained anyway. Garage stumped. If these repairs don't sort it he thinks it may be electrical.
