How to protect new car? - johnmac
I just bought a new car, nothing amazing just a P reg Escort, but the body if in good shape and i'd like to keep it that way for the next few years.

There are small sections of rust appearing, hardly noticable, under the wheel arches and on the boot, you really have to look to see them, what should i do , sand the rust down and paint over it?

Should i get the underside of the car waxed to prevent any rust?

Are there any other thing i can do with this car?

thanks.

Most critical is to keep the bodywork washed regularly and to keep a good coating of wax on it.

You can wax the potential problem areas under the wheelarches etc with Waxoyl, but make sure all is clean and dirt free first.

Regular washing down the underside of the car with a hose will also help to keep it free of mud etc to prevent wet/damp areas and the possibility of bodywork damage.

Other things to do, of course, include regular servicing, particularly oil and filter changes, following the proper schedule for various checks. Much of this you can probably do yourself.

Enjoy the Escort - by that time (mid-1990s) it had been thoroughly sorted by Ford and was a better car than given credit for; much of the criticsm had arisen because the revamped 1990 introduction of the range rightly received a motoring Press hammering.
