Mercedes e300d auto box - Steve
I have a 95 Merc e300 diesel auto estate. Done 96k miles with fmbsh. When the car is left unused for more than 1 or 2 days there is a delay on the drive take up through the auto box ie when it is first put into drive or reverse in the morning - after that the box is fine in all respects - if it is used every day then there is no delay. The auto fluid level is OK and has been changed every 36k miles. Any one else had this; any suggestions?

Sorry I can't help with the auto-box but would love to hear how you get on with your car.

I've always sid if I had some loot to spare a middle aged MB Diesel Estate (met blue) would be my choice.

Superb car; I bought it Nov 98 when it was exactly 3 yrs old. Had done 33k miles then, so I have done 63k in 3 yrs. Cost me £16,750 (direct BCA) now worth £7-8k+? I intended to keep it 18-24 months, still have it and not intending changing it yet unless there is a bargain new shape e300dt. It is azurite blue with grey cloth, 7 seats.
Apart from this auto box "problem"; actually not really a problem unless it is going to lead to failure of some sort, the car runs just as well if not better than when I bought it. One downside MB dealer servicing costs; keep meaning to move to local garage........

Steve,

So you've got "my" car then. How's the fuel consumption?

Re: Mercedes e300d auto box - Steve
looks like it doesn't it. Fuel consumption is typically 33mpg; it has been as low as 30 and as high as 38mpg.

Steve,

Thanks for the info. Fuel consumption a bit heavier than I'm used to now but still far better overall than my last petrol hatchback,,,,and well worth it I guess.

Have that box repaired properly if it needs it, find a good specialist for servicing and post here in two years when you want to sell it (and I might have some money).

As to the repair as no-one has come up with anything look at the FAQs on this site, no.16 I think, give the nearest guy a call and tell him HJ sent you!
