creaking suspension on fiesta - elisa1
I have a 1999 Fiesta Zetec. On the way home on friday it sudeenly started making a noise like a creaking/knocking noise from the front right of the suspension, when I got home i pressed on this corner and it carried on doing it. Later in the evening once it had got cooler I did the same thing again and it had stopped. My brother said it could be the rubber seals on the wishbone and anti roll bar that were a little dry and because it was a hot day it was making them creak and to spray them with WD40? Is this right?

A coomon fault is wear on the rubber suspension bushes: the Zetec S models had a modification fitted by dealers if needed.
Do you corner hard? If so this may be the cause.

By all means spray the bushes: it will probably last for 2-3 months and then start again. If you get any clonks on cornering you will need new bushes.

Sounds like worn rubber monoblock bush on lower front suspension wishbone. The bush separates from the wishbone, which causes the creaking. The bush is a press fit into the housing and requires specialist hydraulic press, you need to replace complete wishbone assembly unless you have access to these specialist tools. The complete wishbone part only costs about £26 plus fitting. This is an MOT failure. The last time I got a price from Kwikfit, the cost was about £45.

This is a general observation about WD40. It is too volatile to provide lasting relief from squeaks/stuck locks. You need to use something less volatile; a grease. (You can buy spray grease in cans just like WD40.)

Sorry to hear about your suspension but consider yourself lucky.

My mark 4's rear suspension bottoms out when anyone over 9 stone sits in the back. There is the most sickening noise when the wheels scrape the wheel arches as the car bottoms out. It of course is going to get fixed....one day

I'd use vegetable oil, as WD40 could affect the rubber.
