If you are parking in an area such as a disabled bay or on yellow lines where being a blue badge holder grants you additional rights over a driver without a blue badge, it is the responsibility of the driver to display the blue badge in the windscreen - we would always err on the side of caution in these circumstances. However, how you appeal against this ticket depends on the location of where it was issued and the body responsible for enforcing the parking regulations.

You can read more about this process in our detailed guide here - www.honestjohn.co.uk/advice/driving-advice/parking.../ - but in brief, a ticket issued by a local authority, police or Transport for London will be marked as a Penalty Charge Notice, Excess Charge Notice or Fixed Penalty Notice and will show the name of the issuing authority and how to appeal, whereas a ticket issued by a private company will not use these terms and will likely be called a Parking Charge Notice or similar. In either case any paperwork you have should provide a reference number for the alleged offence and if you search online for the organisation that issued it this will provide information on how to appeal. Even if the window for an appeal has passed we would still attempt to do so, and if there was no ticket on your car when you returned to it this may be considered additional grounds as part of your appeal.
