why is it that people park where they are not surposed to,
ie: zig-zags outside schools / yellow lines etc etc
yet think "its ok - my hazard lights are on"
Or today, some bright spark decided to park (on my left) in a nice line of parked cars but slightly sticking out,
my first thought was, that person is moving out of that space, slowed down, flashed lights , then noticed hazards were on but of course all I could see on approach was the right hand indicator flashing - why oh why!!!!
(walks away muttering to ones self!)

Flashing your lights? Just to warn him you were there of course...
:oP

Comes back to the age old argument that "hazard "lights should actually be changed so that it is your brake lights that are flashing rather than your indicators.
By definition, hazard lights are for a hazard, so a good chance that you would want to slow down approaching it, flashing brake lights would assist this.
Hazard lights are not there to say "I am a lazy x and think everything will be ok if I put these on!
No doubt, the police would object as they want a monopoly on flashing red lights..

What about the front of the car?

One of my pet hates are those who pull into a layby off a major road and put their hazards on - especially at night!
|
Rather a strange pet hate? In a shallow layby with traffic going by at high speed it sounds a sensible idea.
Unless you are parked behind them of course.
|
If you are on an unlit and possibly unfamiliar road it gives the impression of an obstructed lane - hazard lights should only be used where there is an actual hazard.
|
They're pretending to have broken down, so they won't ve cursed.

...and me, and when they leave their headlights on as well.....!

especially if its a combination of magic lanterns, headlights AND on the wrong side of the road at night......aaaaarrrgggghhhh.

True it is annoying -
BUT,
You have seen them, noted them and slowed down expecting an obstruction to your driving - which is kinda the whole point in them lighting their car up like an xmas tree in the fist place.
If i was in the same situation, I'd much rather annoy someone and be seen, than blend into the darkness and be wiped out.

Hazards do have their bonus points, for some.
SWMBO has a friend who is a warden, she reckons hazards are wonderful, 95% of vehicles with them on are parked illegally and are advertising the fact. Makes her job a lot easier, she can see a victim a lot further away when their hazards are flashing!
Apparently the wardens refer to them as 'Please book me lights'.

When it is on double yellows on the main road during the rush hour it generally means, "I've just ducked into the shop to get my packet of fags and do my Lottery.
