Are there any banks who treat their customers like adults responsible for their own decisions?

I ask after an extremely stressful and annoying time trying to pay a deposit for a car online through Bank of Scotland. At this point, not only have I not been able to pay the deposit (BOS decided it was too risky), but I've also been locked out of the App after getting alternative bank details from seller and trying to pay the deposit bit by bit.

This is actually the second time I've been thwarted by BOS, though in fairness the last time was £7.5k for a bathroom renovation, so a much bigger sum of money.

But £500, really?, i'm absolutely fuming about it!. I'm away down to the local branch (ironically, BOS is one of the only banks with an actual branch left in town) to both express my feelings and see if they can help.

We are with Halifax credit cards and HSBC banking. Both easy to deal with.

When making payments with HSBC send a Tenner and then the balance.

But hope you are paying some of that £7.500 by credit card.

Both banks have a system where you get a passcode to confirm payment.

The attitude of the bank may be to do with the payee - garage/dealer you are buying from.

Last year I bought a car and had to pay something over £20k on collectiion, and nervous that cards may be rejected for such an amount despite the funds being in the account.

In the event the payment went straight through as if I were buying a tank of petrol. Being curious I asked the dealer about it - he said the bank recognise the dealer and accept large transactions to their account. BTW my bank is Nat West.

Another rake of closure announced this week, hopefully your town isn't one of the ones that will now be left with no bank in town.

As for paying for cars I always put the deposit on a CC as that way I get section 75 cover (if the car is under £30k). Last year had over £25k taken via debit at the dealer for the remaining amount (but I did check with BoS beforehand as I though that there was a £20K limit).

I don't do any finance via apps/mobile, in person or desktop only.

I'm with Lloyds. They're awful, but every time they cock something up I shout at them and get fifty quid. If you are happy using a phone, First Direct are very good. No branches and their online stuff is pretty ropey, but they're great on the phone.

We was with Lloyd's as well, agree they can be carp, swapped our current account Monzo, world of difference although as with First Direct no branches but honestly don't find it a problem.

Don't Monzo have a certain reputation?
