I know it's posing but we've had a 'cherished' number plate in the family for years. There's never been any problem in having it changed to a new car. It's always been done more or less in a couple of days by the dealer. Suddenly the change over takes 'at least 10 days because of new procedures'. Our new car is sitting in the dealer waiting for the DVLA to do the transfer. The dealer is at a loss to explain why the change in time scale and the DVLA web site doesn't help. Apparently the dealer can no longer phone the tax office to find out what's going on. Everything now has to be done by post.
Does anyone know, please, what's going on and why the change?

& they've started carrying out more inspections of the vehicles involved.
Like you say, before it was quite a simple procedure.
Still, keeps a few people in Swansea & local VRO's busy!!

I imagine that it's in the interests of reducing number plate crimes.
