Best convertible for under £10k - Craig_1969
We bought a new Beetle convertible and I didn't like it particularly. So I sold it.

Now I want to spend up to £10k on a convertible. I have been thinking 9-3 Saab but understand the cabin is small and there is terrible scuttle shake. Has anyone got any suggestions or cars to be avoided/sought out?

Megan?

Are there any Backroomers called Megan? :-)

Seriously, though .. good time of year to buy, I suppose, if you can find any needy sellers. Your choice of car is pretty wide and will depend on what image you want to display. And on whether you intend to use it in all weathers (drippy roof - no gutters) or travelling with luggage (reduced boot to accommodate folded roof).

My only experience is with Pugs, 2x 205 CTi, one 306. All nice cars, but the above niggles, plus insurance cost, made the novelty wear off fairly quickly. Great driving round France, though.

I think Driven did a test between a golf, a peugeot cc and an astra convertible a couple of years ago. They actually preferred the astra as the ride quality was better, there was not too much scuttle shake and the boot was decent. Worth a test drive at least. If you don't mind left hand drive then the fiat barchettas are supposed to be excellent. Mazda MX5 is also a good choice.

How about a cabrio which offers the following:

Plenty of cabin space
Full electric roof which can be opened and closed at any speed.
Boot space not compromised by lowering roof - still enough space for full camping gear for a week.
No useless rear seats (like the 206).
Available brand new with plenty of change from £10k

smart cabrio - you know it makes sense!!!!
