Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have some kind of heat relective film applied to my side windows?
I have seen it used on some rally cars when racing in hot climates and it looks like a good idea to keep the sun off the kids in the back instead of those silly blinds you can get.
Does any car have heat relective glass fitted as an option, and is this the same thing I have seen on Renaults when they have a silver/purple tint to their front screen?

Many makes of vehicle have heat absorbing/reflectice glass, these are always fitted as standard. As a rule it is the exec type of cars (although it is getting more and more mainstream)that have this type of glass.
There are plenty of firms around that will be happy to apply a reflective film to your windows, just look in the yellow pages under windscreens.
As for the Renaults with the purple screens they are indeed reflective glass, but almost all new cars have relective windscreens now, its just that the technology has mooved on so they now appear "normal".
I won't get into windscreen geek mode (although that is part of my job) but basicly the screen has a microscopic layer of silver applied to the inside, of the outer layer of the laminated screen. Thats why you will here of camera detectors and sat nav not working in cars with solar reflective screens ( i.e. the signal is hindered by the interlayer).

Yes you can get reflective film to put on the glass, there was a long thread on here about the legalaties of it. Search on tint.
The renaults (had a scenic - purple) and now my laguna (silverish) have heat reflecting windscreens. The film you get will be black or silver. There are firms around who fit it to existing windows.
