Another simple thing you could think about is the fuel filter(maybe dirty). Next you could be looking possibly at, are clogged injectors. If its anything to do with the computerised system(assuming it has one) then thats out of my league.

Does the car take longer to start when the engine is cold? Has the stutter developed over time or suddenly.
Difficult to tell at this time of year - but in the winter when the glow plugs failed on my TD there was a cloud of unburnt diesel when the engine first started. Also became almost impossible to start (all 4 glow plugs had expired). If only one or two plug(s) has gone then this may cause a stutter.
Note that the glow plugs are only used at start-up at cold and for the first few seconds until they cool down. After that it is up to the cylinder temperature.

Thank you for your response.
The car does not take any longer to start when the engine is cold or warm. The juddering has developed over time, although on most occasions it will completely subside once the car has driven half a mile or so, on other occasions, even when the engine is well warmed,ie, driven for a few miles in city traffic, when idling at say some traffic lights, the judder becomes noticeable, but less so.
As this is a Hdi engine, apparently, you do not need to watch for the glow-plug light to disappear before turning to start the engine, you start immediately on turning the key.
Any further thoughts?
Thanks.

I would always wait for the glow plug light to go out before turning the engine over as you will eventually damage the glow plugs and deposit unburnt fuel.

Yes, of course, but my HDI doesn't even have a glowplug light, so at what point should I stop waiting?

Same here, the glow-light does not display, and the start is immediate.
Can anyone confirm whether or not my milage figures(mpg) would be affected by faulty glow-plugs??
Thanks

O.K. I was always taught to wait for the glowplug light to go out but if you aint got one you cant wait.

The glowplugs usually stay on for a significant time after the light goes out;this is to ensure the engine starts cleanly and warms up properly.

Doesn't sound like glow plugs - not if the shudder is there when warmed up.
Not sure at moment - sounds more like a slight misfire. Maybe cheaper in the long run to get a diagnostic done. Maybe blocked injectors, sooting up, lack of air or poor compression. I would think the last can be dismissed.
Q - is the car used for a lot of short journeys? If so take it for a good rant for at least 10 miles and get the revs up (4K RPM!)to clean it out. If this applies I'd try it first. Maybe too much city life. Also make sure you use good diesel.

Thank you for your comments.
The car is used for relatively short city journeys, however, I do the occassional long run in it (motorway), and the judder is still there after the car has cooled down, and I go to re-start it again???
Maybe I will get it checked at a Peugeot dealer - will keep you posted !
