2012 VW GOLF 2.0 TDI BLUEMOTION MATCH HATCH - Cat N purchase turns out to be Cat A or B - jrm75

HI everyone , I need a bit of help ...

I purchased a VW Golf that was described as Cat N , it was MOT'd on April 3 2020 and I purchased it on May 16 2020 .

I applied for a new V5 but have been informed by DVLA that car is Cat A or B and must be scrapped , Ive had an engineer who does crash damage repairs look over the car and he cant see any reason for a Cat A or B or even Cat S , as there are no signs of any structural damage at all .

Is there any way of getting this Category Changed , or finding out the previous owner as my friend thinks the insurance company may have wrote it off as Cat N but made a mistake in telling DVLA its Cat A or B.

We can see its had a new bumper and headlight but thats all that is showing as being replaced , the car has been looked at thourghly up on ramps and had covers removed to check for repairs to any structure under the car ,in the engine bay and in the boot.

That's a trader so the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA) applies - the item isn't as described so take it back and get a refund

I would strongly suggest to everyone - don't buy a car that's Cat-anything, unless you intend to keep it for a very long time.

It might seem like a bargain now, but it'll be someone else's bargain, at your expense, if you want to sell it.

Many years ago I purchased a Vauxhall Senator, Was stopped by Police for jumping a read light, at the roadside whilst they did there checks they got vey exited because the car had been subject to a insurance full pay-out/write off. It was taxed/insured correctly. Found not guilty at court, police evidence was suspect.

Subsequently found I had to take the car to a specialist repair shop for inspection at a significant cost to have the insurance pay-out flag removed. Apparently the car was a stolen/recovered with no damage
