Jaguar F Pace - Getting car serviced during warranty period - Richard wall
HaS anyone ever got a new car serviced not at Main Dealer but a normal garage using approved Jaguar parts and then gone to make a warranty claim at the main dealer and they’ve said no and wiggled out of it some how because you’ve not used a main dealer and done it at a normal garage. I ask because buying a new F pace and wondered could I get it done serviced at my local Garage but use jaguar approved parts

Thanks all

You can in theory, but it really isn't advisable. Number one, you may have difficulty getting Jag to honour any warranty work, they will do their best to worm their way out, and having the car seviced outwith the dealer network would certainly be ammunition. Secondly, when it comes time to trade the car in, a car without a full main dealer service history is going to be worth a lot less than with main dealer history.

Up to you at the end of the day, but there is no way would i do it.

Few people will be ableand prepared to order a new expensive car at the present time, i would suggest the dealer would or should bend over backwards to complete the deal, including offering an unbeatable service package.

If they don't want to play ball re a service package, maybe talk about backing away from the deal and seeing what the competition have to offer, this is the time to make a good deal.

I too would only want the main dealer servicing the car for the whole length of warranty, 5 years presumably?, and for the year following too to bank some goodwill.

Main dealer every day for me for a car within warranty. Reasons as above, plus you’ll have recalls and updates available whilst it’s in. Should you need to have any warranty work done, you’d be at the back of the queue for a courtesy car, behind regular customers.

When you look at reliability of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles there is a very high chance you will have a warranty claim within three years. My Jag knew its own way to the dealership.

Using a third party to service such a vehicle in warranty is Russian Roulette with a bullet in 5 chambers rather than 1.

A service on one of these will be £500 minimum, so haggle hard for a solid discount (compare prices with brokers) and use savings to pay for main dealer services,

With their modern cars there is a very high probability that a software update will be available which will be installed during the service at the dealers. The local garage are unlikely to be able to do this.

Premium car like yours bite the bullet and use the main dealers. Any problems within the warranty and you have a much stronger position. Even proving the indie used the correct oil can cause you bother.

I'd stick with the main dealer option too...far better should you have later issues.

We took out a 3 year servicing deal with our supplying local Toyota dealer when we bought my wife's brand new Yaris Y20 back in March.

Previously we have only ever used our trusted indy when we've bought used cars but we felt that main dealer servicing and history could provide us with benefits longer term..particularly when change/sell time comes along.

A current complication is that main dealers have shut down their service depts as part of lockdown. My Golf is due it’s second year service in July and I intend to get the main dealer to do it. However even in normal circumstances their service lead time is 3-4 weeks so goodness knows what date they will offer.

If they can’t meet a reasonable date I will keep copies of any emails and book it into an indie, A VAG specialist of course. We have a local-ish one who claims to meet full standards and will update records online.

My local main VW dealer (Salisbury) is re-open for servicing, and I know (from discussion on a separate motoring forum) that many others are also..

We had the Fabia serviced last week at the local Skoda dealer. It was due late April but since the service was included in the purchase price of the car there was no way I was getting it done elsewhere. The dealer assured me that the late service would not affect warranty since it was not my fault but the garages decision to close during Covid except for maintaining NHS vehicles. Ultimately it did not matter, car was still serviced within the 4 week/1000 mile window.

Having driven past several garages recently Peugeot/Nissan/Citroen/Kia all seem to be open but the gates at Toyota and Ford are still blocked by immobilised vehicles.

My Fpace has had a new front diff, under warranty and it took the dealer 3 attempts to get the air con working. Hopefully the teething problems are now over. Under warranty I would definitely use a main dealer. If you don’t have a service plan servicing is extremely expensive. Out of warranty I would find a recommended Jaguar specialist. I have been very disappointed with service department of my local main dealer.

It always amazes me that people are prepared to spend tens of thousands of pounds on a new car but then won't shell out a few hundred quid each year on a main dealer service whilst it is within the warranty period. I always consider haviing main dealer services for the first three years or so as part of the overall purchase of a new car.
