VW Tiguan SE Nav TDi diesel purchased July 2016 - Reversing lights - hockeystar

The rear light panel on this car has clear plastic sections on the offside and nearside for reversing lights but only the nearside one lights up when reverse is selected. I thought this was a fault but my VW main dealer says only one side is meant to light up. This seems mean on a vehicle costing around £30,000. Do you think it would be a simple job to get the offside light to function too?

Lots of cars have only one reverse light. Usually there is a coresponding fog light on the other side. Fitting up another light on the other side is too complicated and not simple,due to the design of the can network control system.
