2007 Honda CRV CDTi 2.2 - HONDA CLUTCH 2.2CDTI - jgrahampo

I am presuming my clutch is about to go 10 yrs and 76000m. Slips in 2nd and 3rd gears when coming off a roundabout, overtaking generally flooring it etc etc.

Anything else other than clutch? release Bearing or clutch cylinder?

How much should I be looking at for supply and fit of a new clutch to a 2007 MK3 CRV CDTi 2.2?

Local dealer(20 miles away) quoted £850

Next nearest local dealer(50 miles away) £680 (maybe that's not so bad)

I am assuming although a lengthy job that it requires no specific "skills" that a dealer may have so any competent garage should be able to do it without difficulty.

Is there any brand of clutch that may be better than others? Have seen Sachs xTend for around £190 for supply only of the kit.

It's a used car I bought 6 weeks ago with 75k on. Done 2500m since. Clutch seems to slip in 2nd and 3rd between 2k and 3k rpm. EG if flooring it coming off a roundabout.

On a side note I am mightily impressed with this old CRV, apart from the clutch obviously. Spacious, comfy, 43mpg. I was looking for an older car for my 10000 work miles and this seems just the job.

What are folks experience of clutch replacement?

Many thanks

Job time for this is six hours.

And pretty much all garages won't like fitting any parts you supply.

Problem is if say the new clutch packs in in a few months your going to be back at their door complaining.

And as long as the gearbox bolts are still in your going to get no help from the garage.

Whereas if they supply and fit the clutch your covered in most events.

You do not walk into Burger king with a lump of raw meat and expect them to cook it!

thanks but I am not sure that answers my question. Maybe I posted it badly. I wasn't planning to supply the clutch pack just asking if any were better than others.

Also consider it may need a Dmf,which could easily add another £500 to the bill.

there are no nasty vibrations or juddering so what is the likelyhood? thanks

Not changing the DMF at the same time as the clutch is a complete false economy. 90% of the work has already been done, so the additional expense should be little more than the cost of the DMF.

Well I didn't quite get that!

Personaly I choose Borg and Beck for clutches whenever possible.

Main dealer @ £680 isn't a bad price at all, i doubt you'll get much better at an indy.

Even daughter's petrol Civic clutch was a pricey affair, some £450 at an indy as i recall, not the easiest job in the world, and having fitted a new clutch with my lad in his Subaru with the extra weight of transfer box plus extra prop to unbolt due to AWD, the job was hard and heavy.

LUK is another good clutch make, not sure what OE make would be via the main dealer, but unless there at least £150 difference in it and that at a very well regarded indy, i would be letting the dealer do the job.

To compare costs, other daughter's Aygo needed new clutch, dealer quoted some £750, we got it done at th excellent indy in the town for £280 all incl, with them supplying LUK clutch.

Coxs do a complete kit including DMF for £562

I think thats the cheapest I have seen for a LUK clutch kit on that

LUK clutches and DMFs are excellent quality and OE supply to some makes.

As an example had the clutch and DMF replaced on my 2008 Ford S Max 2.0 TDCi a few weeks ago. Main dealer (South Somerset) £1100 all in, local reputable specialist using LUK parts £700 all in.

I suspect you could save about 30 to 40% by using an indi rather than the dealer.

And definitely replace the DMF, false economy not too.

You need the DMF and the clutch pack which will be a later uprated version. Go with origonal parts - it'll be fine and get it done at a Honda dealer. I had my Civic done, same engine, same gerabox etc.
