Ford Mk6\7 Fiesta - Autobox Reliability - carl233

Does anyone have any experience as to what the autoboxes are like in these cars? It is planned as a second car for the other half to use so the transmission would need to cope with mixed conditions around town as well as some long motorways runs of 200 miles plus.

Can spend anything from £2000 all the way to about £5500. Mk6 examples from 2005 seem to be at the bottom end of the budget whilst MK7 cars from around 2010 or maybe even 2011 are at the higher end.

Does anyone know if the 1.4 has a different transmission to the 1.6 and if so which is the better example to go for? Are these transmissions good past 60k miles?

The Durashift is apparently maintenance free till 145,000m. I think this replaced the durable 4F27E (they didn't give gearboxes names in those days) Mazda/Ford unit in our 16yr old Focus. Unless they regularly get really hot doing too much work I think they will usually last the life of the car.

Thanks for the details, was the 4F27E box ever fitted to the MK6 Fiesta do you know? Seems to be quite a number of failures of the Durashift boxes doing a quick search.

Durashift is a robotised manual gearbox.Avoid at all cost. The original Focus would have been fitted with the Jatco mazda/ford autobox. No real problems with these.

Thanks for the details about the Jatco box, were any of these fitted to the Fiesta? Are there any solid autoboxes fitted to Fiesta's made between 2005-2011?
