Mondeo Mk 3 - Wet footwell carpets - dunaird

Rainwater is going into the drivers door and instead of flowing out through the drain holes is coming out between the door and door card and onto the carpet. I have removed, cleaned and replaced the rubber window seal but to no avail! I removed and resealed the door mirror, also no change!

The water seems to be dropping onto the back of the speaker and travelling from there..Any suggestions??

There should be a plastic sheet inside the door, between the trim and the metal door skin. That has probably perished.

Car doors are not designed to be waterproof.Water will enter the door and should drain out through the rain chanels in the bottom of the door. You need to remove the door card and check the waterproof membrane for damage.

Thanks for info.. Have had door card off and waterproof membrane is sound but water still leaking out. I think it may be exiting via the bottom screw which holds the door card on or water is bouncing off back of speaker and getting between door skin and membrane then onto carpet. will try to reseal and report result.

I had this problem a few years back, the membrane looked fine until you look really close and there was a small pin prick of a hole where the water was dripping down the inside of the door,I JUST squashed the membrane putty a bit to block the hole problem solved but it was something i had to repeat once a year on average, think this is a known fault as im sure ive read this on honest john before
