Peugeot 306 - 306 poor performance - horsefodder

Hi, I have a 1997 1.9 td 306 with only 84k on the clock, its been used for short journeys and I have noticed its well down on power, with a bit of testing I found the egr solinoid was kaput, I have conected the vacum hose to the egr as a temp test, and had a slight improvement, the turbo apears to chuck out pressure any ideas, and where is the best place to get another solinoid valve?

Disconnect the air intake pipe from the manifold and see if you get a good blast of air from the pipe, if not check for leaks on the pipes from the turbo to intercooler, or the intercooler itself.

and then give it a good dose of injector cleaner.

Something else has just occured to me, if it has a Bosch pump there is a small vacuum pipe that goes from the intercooler to the injection pump, this is what tells the pump that the turbo pressure is rising and more fuel is needed, this could have come off or broken.

The EGR valve would not have any detrimental effect on engine performance unless it was stuck open. The valve should be closed at engine idle and at full load. Having mentioned the EGR valve I would remove it and check for the build up of thick deposits, but be mindful that if it is choked up then so will be the the whole air intake towards the engine right up to the cylinder head. This will restrict air flow and cause poor performance. You could do worse than remove the inlet manifold and thoroughly clean it in a 50/50 mix of Heavy Traffic Film Remover and water. Remove the worst first with a scraper, and then let it soak for at least 24 hours in a bucket of the solution. When it's clean make sure it's fully dry throughout and refit it.

I'd check the MAF if its the 1.9 DW8 engine. A faulty MAF will make the car sluggish and won't put an EML on the dash.

Quite likely. Try cleaning the MAF with some air intake cleaner. Dirt on the hot blade is usually the cause.
