My petition:

Reduce the time it takes DVLA to return wrongly revoked driving licences.

I have just had my driving license revoked on medical grounds, this despite being allowed to drive for 5 months while they did investigations & having both my GP & psychiatrist saying I am fit & perfectly safe to drive. The DVLA say even its a mistake I still have to reaply & it could take months.

On the DVLA website it states that with Personality Disorder a license will be revoked if you are likely to be a danger behind the wheel. My doctor says I am no danger My psychiatrist says I am no danger. DVLA says I cannot drive despite my excellent record I have driven for 22 yrs, never had an accident, never had a single point on my license. I live in the countryside with young children, I am now stranded as there is no nearby buses. My dad is sick with cancer ,until now was visiting regularly.

It is beyond a joke taking so long to return licenses which should never have been revoked. It could happen to anyone, imagine how losing your license for months would affect you, would you lose your job, your home as no income, even cause family break up?

I would be very grateful if you could click on link & sign petition, thanks : )

Done! It does sound awful.

As much as I sympathise with your problem,

The rules are there to be followed, and although you have stated that your Doctors say you are safe to drive, it is in all of our interests that drivers remain safe to drive.

AS we do not know exactly what your diagnosis and treatment are, and any medication it is unfair to ask us to change things.

If you are on certain medications it is at the very least not advisable to drive, and dependant on dosage even forbidden to.

Perhaps get one of the tabloids to intervene and put it in the public domain.

To be able to sign it would help to have more facts and less "opinions"

Why not take it at face value, after all if the DVLA can revoke a licence without evidence, that is concerning is it not? If that is not the case, then they will quite rightly ignore the petition.

I've signed, but currently it needs more of us before it can go "live" here:

Thankyou for signing.

I am not doing it for my case, just telling my experience so far (I am now stuck in the system!), it is to help others in the future, I agree safety is a priority. My point is that even if a mistake is made the DVLA has told me it can take months to get a license back that should not happen if there is error.

DVLA must be the worst example of privatisation mustn't it. They can't do anything right. Except make money for their shareholders - but who owns them? Who knows?

I'm surprised you don't mention their mis-use of private data.

I'm surprised you don't mention their total disregard of data protection legislation.

But in any case I'll be glad to sign your petition.

Privatised? No its not. Where do you get all this 'information' from? Its still very much part of the DfT, hence why its useless in my view. What they do isn't exactly rocket science, but like so much in government circles, they make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Not just the public sector though - what about insurance companies, broadband providers or energy companies? Not exactly easy to deal with unless you're a new sign-up.

I'm with ORB on this. I have never ever had a problem with the DVLA, indeed I found their service concerning the acquisition and application of a private plate perfectly satisfactory. The only problem I had was with the tardiness and inaccurate form-filling of the previous owner. It could be argued that, like the licencing of the use of other potentially lethal weapons, they should be stricter than they are.

I have often had problems with the bureaucracy and sheer incompetence of privately owned organisations such as e-mail providers, banks, utilities, train services and insurance companies.

Again, subsequent to previous posts of mine,

Whenever I have had dealings with DVLA, I have been treated with courtesy and understanding each time.

Apart from medical issues, if people

1. filled in their documentation correctly

2 posted at least recorded delivery

3. acted in a timely manner

there would be less problems....

I don't know why I thought they had been privatised!

Probably because they're greedy, corrupt, and careless in a way made common by privatised utilities.

They haven't been, they're still a government organisation.

Which makes it even more pressing to sign your petition.

Or privatise them? In a good way? Abolish them?

You've managed to say privavtised companies aer corrupt, careless and greedy and then suggested they should be privatised! LOL :-)

This problem also affects diabetics and no doubt other groups. From what I can see the DVLA are quite simply incapable of dealing with any case that appears to be "off script" or does not conform to a series of easy "tick boxes". Their ability to recognise and correct their own mistakes is almost non-existant.

I shall sign, but am sceptical it would do any good even if every driver in the land were to sign. DVLA are about bringing in money for the Exchequer, not fairness or effficiency or anything else (just look at th erecent deletion of tax discs and how much extra that raises).
