Don't forget guys that its unlikely to be the air temperature quoted in news/weather reports (in the shade) that makes the difference, but the strength of the sun, which could mean the effective temperature of a surface in direct sunlight may be significantly higher than the air temperature.
Its the same reason why car components started melting and people were burnt in central London in the area adjacent to the 'Walkie-Talkie' building in the recent past - the direct sunlight was (in that case) concentrated onto a small area at certain times of the day in late summer/early autumn due to the unfortunate (but known - it had hapened before with another building abroad designed by the same architect) combination of sun position and shape of the building acting like a focusing lens.
I agree in the case above that poorer quality plastics may have been used, given that other cars parked adjacent to the Renault appears to not be suffering from similar problems.
