Golf mk3 1995 TDI - Gear rod or cable - mikk55

Hello

I have selector trouble with my 1995 Golf TDI. I have had the problem diagnosed and been told to buy a gear shift kit and they would fit it.

I sourced a kit and was about to buy, but it said it was for a rod version not cable.

I do not know whether I have a rod or a cable, how do I tell, where do I look?

My petrol 1996 Mk 3 Golf is rod. Very easy to check, just look at the top of the gearbox and get a friend to move the gear lever.

Pretty sure our 1996 TDi was cable. Our 1989 petrol (which we owned at the same time) was rod and the appearance of the mechanism was totally different.

But as said above its very easy to spot, just use your eyes.

Right, it is cable.

That means no kit available.
