Oh Dear Poor parking attendant - Witness to abuse - oldroverboy.

This afternoon I witnessed shocking abuse of a parking attendant who had ticketed a car parked in a loading bay.

He was "called various names" (the swear filter would explode) and called out and threatened by a "yoof" while his girlfriend stood by laughing.

Result, threw the ticket at the attendant who promptly told him he would be reported for littering. said attendant requested cctv footage and asked if i was prepared to be a witness.

Naturally!

I'll have a little side bet with you ORB, it'll go nowhere, there, crime levels are dropping.

What on earth do these silly girls see in cave dwellers, some good father/protector/provider/role model that example will be.

Sadly GB, I think you,re probably correct in your prognosis. I thought i only read about such things or saw them on the telly.

At one point i really thought he would be attacked.

Good for you ORB. Civilised people need to support each other. Society has become like it is because of this kind of behaviour being tolerated.

It begins in smaller ways and the bounds of acceptability are pushed further.

I blame his parents to a degree.

After a lifetime working in schools I have to agree. Children in the vast majority of cases were a reflection of their parents. Over generations variations from the standards of good behaviour increase. As a result we see some of the appalling behaviour displayed today.

I am also saddened to accept that schools must bear some responsibility for this as well. To avoid conflict, too much poor behaviour has been tolerated, and a lack of respect allowed to grow.

Standards started to decline when they abolished capital punishment in schools.

Some snotty litle kid was rude about my atire - a refletive safety vest over a jerkin- when I visted the local shop about January this year. I ignored it and smiled at him.

Imagine my surprise when next time I saw him, he apologised for being rude...

Blimey, i thought my school was old fashioned, bad enough and you'd get the cane (something i managed to avoid, though dozens of masters detentions and other punishments)), they never executed any of the inmates though as far as i know.

:-))

Back in the days of Mrs T, I worked with a a collegue who was somewhat more right wing than Gengis Khan. I made the comment about aboloshing capital punishment in schools. He then ranted and raved about restoring capital punishment in schools for the next half hour. He could not understand why the entire office were struggling to keep a straight face, especially when he claimed it did him no harm.

In school, I got detention once, and the girl who lived next door did too (separately) and "Stan" our maths teacher had to drive us home as we lived 5 miles out in the country, no buses...

never got detention from him again.

Well done ORB. Supporting this person is the right thing to do. I have come across some real 'nasty pasties' disguised as parking attendants but I would still not stand by and see them abused.

As for discipline, especially in schools, don't get me started!!!!

Cheers Concrete

I honestly think that traffic wardens often don't help themselves with their own attitude.

When I was on one contract, I spent most mornings just off Oxford Street in London. The traffic wardens were wise to us delivering there and they would be there waiting on the corner for us to arrive. The bit which annoyed me was they did not stick to the law. They would slap a ticket on the truck as soon as you arrived, despite the fact you were allowed 20 mins to unload in that bay.

There was one morning where another person and myself had to save one of the wardens from being attacked because she decided to give a parcel delivery van a ticket for stopping to deliver, the delivery driver was not even there 3minutes. When questioned she claimed he deserved a ticket as his bumper (in her opinion) was an inch over the line at the end of the loading bay. This is the kind of behaviour that will get even the most placid person irritated.
