Pover 75 diesel - stone guard - hugh946

My neighbour has an '02 Rover 75 2l diesel. A week or so a 'bit' fell off.

The garage that services the car said it was a stone guard and there was no need to re-attach it.

He thinks it was attached to the offside behind the rear wheel arch and near a small radiator which is tucked up behind the wheel arch.

It is made of black plastic, hollow and roughly triangular in section. It is about 9ins long by about 6ins wide by some 2ins at its widest, tapering to nothing. There are two steel straps riveted to it which held it to the car, but both have broken.

Is it a stone guard and should it be re-attached to protect whatever it was 'guarding'?

Any help or advice much appreciated, many thanks.

The small radiator behind the wheel arch is the diesel fuel cooler. It does need to be protected from any debris thrown up from the road/wheel.Perhaps the plastic cover could be re-attached with some made up brackets.

Many thanks for the information. Since it seems fairly well protected behind the wheel arch both from wind flow, could it be that since it is not a simple flat sheet, that as well as a stone guard it is also intended to divert air upwards around the fuel cooler?
