2005 Peugeot 206 - Fully comp or third party only? - HLB

I've had this car from new. It has 162,000 miles on the clock. I've been told that it's worth between £700 and £900. The insurance is due for renewal this month and I have always insured fully comp. I've read, given the low value of the car, that this is a waste of money and I should opt for third party only. Can anyone advise?

Get quotes, probably find the fully comp quote will be on a par, and sometimes cheaper than, third party.

TBH i wouldn't claim for damage less than a thousand pounds in any one incident regardless.

Stay full comp, even if you're car's worth nothing.

You may-well find that Third Party could work out dearer; the fraud level attached to that form of cover is worse than Full Comprehensive, plus, in these days, much of what's covered in FC has had, by law, to be included in TP, e.g. passenger liability cover.

Agree with the above. On the occasions I have looked into this for an older car not worth much, the difference has not been worth the sacrifice.

I can only echo the above posters advice and findings. In the past when I have got quotes for both types of cover, comprehensive has always been cheaper.

Ditto to all the above. I think you also get better windscreen cover with fully comp. Not sure if you get any at all with TP.

Consider Comprehensive Cover but with high voluntary excesses as by the sounds of it you won't be looking to claim for own damage or theft (Although not all Insurers apply voluntary excesses to theft claims).

The benefit of the above is it's generally cheaper than Third Party Only but you still get windscreen cover
