Toyota MR2 - Engine not revving - Farmhand

I am restoring a G reg MR2 (engine code 3S-FE) and have had the engine out. Now it's back in it won't rev at all. It idles OK but as soon as I touch the throttle the engine just dies.

It seems to me that it might be a sensor but have been unable to pinpoint it.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try?

All sorts of possibles here.Something not connected or incorrectly connected?.Are the fuel lines fitted the right way round (supply and return).Check any air intake or vacuum/breather for splits.

May not be relevant, but I had the same problem on my MK1 MX5, it was a dry joint in the Airflow meter, black box just after the air filter with a flap in it

From memory this engine (2litre 16valve?) has vacuum operated variable inlet tracts. There is a vacuum pipe towards the rear of the engine that actuates this feature. If the vacuum pipe is not connected then in effect the engine is running lean and is prone to stall when the throttle is open.
