Kia Rio - Kia Seat Putting Me Off Buying - ChrisRev

I recently agreed to buy a Kia Rio, only the dealership has had some issues registering it, so they gave me exactly the same car until they were able to resolve the problem. I've had it for almost a week now, and having spent 2 hours a day commuting in it, it's causing me loads of grief in my hips and lower back.

I'm averagely built, so it isn't as if I don't fit in the seat, and I've never had any issues like this before. I've downsized from a Prius, so perhaps I'm just used to a massive seat by comparison.

My question is this. I can still pull out of buying the Rio, but is this a sensible reason not to buy a car? Given the amount of driving I do, I'm starting to think it might be, but it sounds like a really feeble and poor excuse.

They probably use the same design as Hyundai. The seats in ours gave me and my wife terrible lumbar pain. and it was one of many reasons we sold it very quickly.

You can cancel, but you will probably lose your deposit. Far better to approach the dealer with a sensible head on and see what they can do.

It doesn't sound like a feeble and poor excuse to me. If it's causing hip and back problems, it's not going to be much fun to own. What is curious is that I seem to remember a topic on here where people were making similar complaints about Prius seats. I think the apparent contradiction suggests that you need to choose very carefully.

Thanks John. I'll be honest, the Prius seat had one of these 'adjustable lumbar' things, but if I had it on any setting apart from retracted, it caused me grief so it was a rather redundant feature.

Thanks daveyjp. I part-ex'd the Prius and received some money back that they took most of as the deposit for the Rio, but as I'm still inside the 14 days, I don't know whether I could take the Prius back and sell it myself.

Anyway, thank you both for taking the time to respond. I've got a meeting with Kia on Friday to pick up the other Rio, so I'll discuss my options then...I hate confrontation, so that should be a fun conversation!

Interesting - my mk2 Rio GS spec has supportive yet really comfortable front seats. Long journeys are a real pleasure in my car. Wonder if Kia have drastically changed the seat design on the current model? My previous car, a Citroen Xsara LX, had horrid seats too which made me feel all 'twisted' and gave me back-ache. This problem dissapeared when I got the Rio!

It's just that we're all different shapes. I'm very comfortable in my Octavia vRS but wouldn't be if it didn't have lumbar support, which unlike you, Chris, I have at maximum.

I can't get comfortable in a BMW 3-series, but I seem to be unique in that.

So let's hope that the Kia dealer is reasonable about it - they certainly will be if there is another Kia in the showroom which is comfier for you!
