Ford Focus - Advice on Focus MK2 1.8 Sport - GazNicki
Hi all,

Well after long last we have finally sold the wife's BMW E46 and now she is in the market for a new (second hand) car.

With a budget of £2250 MAX we think we have found the ideal car.

She would like to have a MK2 Focus. As she does very few miles per year, and 80% of them being town miles, a Diesel was the worst thing she could get and I have convinced her the Petrol is the way forward. So she has agreed and is looking at the Petrol ones.

My shout is the 1.8 Duratec engine as this is Chain Driven (i think anyway) while the 1.6 is the Zetec engine and is belt driven. I also think the extra power in the 1.8 will make the occasional Motorway journey bearable too.

Am I correct with the duratec being chain driven, and is there anything I should be looking out for specifically apart from the obvious?

A HPI check on our car of choice, along with a DVLA MOT History Check are all showing the makings of a straight and true car, but any potential pitfalls before parting with the hard earned would be most beneficial to know about.
