Citroen C2 - MOT fail - locking wheel nuts? - spriggit82

Hi,

I have my MOT due at the end of the month and I lost my locking wheel nut and a garage tried to take the locking nuts off and the end of the nut (the bit you use to loosen them) had snapped off! the nuts are still there and are secure I just cant take them off. Will this fail the mot? they managed to get one of the nuts off but didnt replace it so I have bought another nut to put in its place so each wheel has 4 nuts attached.

Any advice of what I can do beforehand to ensure it will pass will be much appreciated.

It should pass : in the MOT, wheel condition is checked for : damage, distortion, cracks, distorted rim bead, that they are securely attached to the vehicle, and that no wheel nuts or studs are missing.

Whether you are wise to leave the car in it's current state or not is another matter entirely ...

i know i am planning to have them removed and replaced once i am back from my holiday just after christmas. its just frustrating that my mot runs out whilst i am away and i dont get paid again until i am on holiday. Thankfully ill only be driving it minimally until then.

Before you end up with a puncture or go metal to metal on the pads, making this drama into a major crisis, why don't buy a set of locking wheel nut removers and, well, remove them, then replace with a nice new shiny set or even put 4 more standard bolts on.

That way the MOT bloke won't be looking down his nose at the mangled lockers, and you won't be worried about the simplest puncture, which will of course happen Christmas Eve if you leave it, win win.

We bought the one from halfords but it didnt work - think it needs a pnumatic socket remover to get them out - think the last time i had tyres fitted (just before i lost the nut) they tightened them too much. Im not sure what else i could try beforehand?

hmm if they're on really tight it might be as well to get a decent tyre bay to do it for you, i believe some use one-off removers so will charge you whatever they cost, maybe 4, and they have all the air guns and stuff ready to hand.

I usually ask the tyre lads to let me tighten my own lockers by hand, and even if none of the other threads/seats get any lube they most certainly do.
