Volvo D5 - Diesel Injector peformance - the_bandit

One of my diesel injectors (#3) operates just below the upper tolerance limit when the engine is cold and well within spec when the engine is hot. All other injectors are well within spec regardless of engine temp.

Does this require further investigation or just leave it alone?

How many miles does the engine have on it? Are you getting cold-starting issues or running problems?

I would agree, I only give my car attention when it doesn't work properly, except for normal servicing of course, otherwise you can spend a lot of money with little or no benifit.

So, basically, you are telling us that all of your injectors are working within the range specified, whether hot or cold.

I'm not sure what we could recommend for you to do, rather than to take a chill pill.

I'm just pointing out that one cylinder in particular stands out in comparison to the others which all read very similar. Sometimes prevention is better than cure.

if you're not getting any warning lamps and performance / starting / running aren't affected, I would simply leave it alone, personally, until I get an actual problem.

In 20 years of using diesel car I have never had the injectors tested, why would I, never had a need to.

It sound to me like your car is running fine but you have, for some unknown reason tested the injectors and found that one is different to the other but still within manufacturers tolerences.

How do you know this has only just happened, it might have had this since it was new. If the injector is within tolerence Volvo could well have fitted it at the factory.

Just use the car and stop worrying.

Very good question, why did you have the injectors tested? I mostly agree with the others, a note of caution being that if the injector does fail it could shorten the engine life.

So maybe keep an eye on it, but not chnage it unless you have a real issue.

I have my own diagnostic software and ran the program for the diesel injectors which gives these readings.

It's entirely possibly these values have been like this since new.

Fair dos, it's a reasonable question for a discussion board. But unless we have a Volvo technical design expert then we aren't going to get much helpful comment on why that variance might be there, whther is is typical, and whether it could presage anything undesirable.

Absolutely no point raising it with a dealer of Volvo CS of course - the answer will be as given above, it's within tolerance so there's nothing wrong with it:)
