Misleading prices in motorway services. - Wackyracer

Recently, I stopped at Winchester services (southbound) and saw a pasty company there, There was a big sign on the wall saying 'all pasty's £2.00' but, When I looked at what they had, they were priced at £3.99.

I asked the man why there was this difference in price to be told that the £2 price only applies when they are about to close and that they close at a different time each day.

Is it just me or is it unfair advertising to attract people?

Mis-Leading sales act.

I would report it to Trading standards and also tell the motor services of this.

Incorrect Pricing

Incorrect or misleading pricing information is a common cause for complaint and is covered in these regulations.
Firstly, you should be clear that shops are not legally obliged to sell you their products and reserve the right not to do so if they wish. This means that if you pick up something which is wrongly priced, you do not have a right to buy it at that price. Having said this however, it is still unlawful for shops and suppliers to display an item at a price which is different to the price requested at the point of sale. Exceptions to this are obvious mistakes where, for example, a TV is priced at £8.99 instead of £899.00. An action is also misleading if it includes the manner in which the price is calculated and whether the item is being marketed as ‘discount’ or ‘for a limited time only’ – when in fact it is not.

Misleading advertsing. An offence. I hope you corrected his spelling and punctuation too:)

I wish I'd taken a photo of the sign now. It lost them a sale as I went to Costa coffee instead.

The only traders on MSA's i buy from are Greggs outlets, bacon and sausage roll available till 11am, £2.20....£3 incl a drink...to be fair McD's are fairly priced too.

Costapacket, Shmuckbucks and the standard rip off counters know exactly what they do with their overpriced tat, i'd rather starve.

I agree, Manatee. Quite apart from the misleading price notice, if they are too sloppy to write 'pasties' properly, their standards of hygiene may be similar. One to avoid.

I trust that wasn't the West Cornwall Pasty Co - their pasties are delicious and their stalls and shops always look clean.

Well, The sloppy spelling is probably me but, The sign was very misleading.

That is the company.

It all looked good, Just bad advertising. If this sign only applies to certain times of day then maybe it should be covered up or removed during the hours to which it does not apply.

I travel on business and stop at motorway services frequently, but only to use the toilets.

Their prices are way too high, I take a packed lunch with me and carry an electric cool box in the car full of cold cans of drink and bottles of water. I refuse to pay their inflated prices.

I can't remember the last time I bought anything at a motorway service area.

I queried the prices at Charnock Richard services a couple of years ago. The answer I got was they were higher due to the transportation costs involved...... Go figure that one out !

...what w_r said, except I don't travel for business!

Same for fuel - you just wouldn't would you?...

Weird thing about fuel, BP's MSA sites sell LPG at very reasonable prices, can never work out why.

I usually don't buy anything in them either but, I had a passenger who wanted a cup of tea so had to this time.

I usually carry water, drinks and food in the car also.

when I had an expense account I would occasionally stop at service areas but nowadays as I fund everything myself the only reason to stop is to refresh / use the toilets ... exception is the M4 near Heathrow where it is sometimes possible to book overnight hotel at a realistic price!
