FIAT 500 2008-2009 - Replace Suspension - gogogasgas

Can the suspension on a 2008-2009 Fiat 500 or 500 Sports (diesel or petrol 1.4 - NOT Cabriolet) be replaced with that of a later model that features the upgraded suspension and anti-sway bar? If so, would it be both the front and rear suspension that would need to be replaced or was the front suspension left unchanged from 2010? What parts would I need for the job?

Or, would I be better off to go with non-original, after market parts and replace the suspension that way? (I don't want a rock hard sports suspension as the car would be doing some country Australia miles and I want to keep my teeth fillings!)

Thanks!

Any other takers? HJ said the following in reagrd to the earlier model Fiat 500s: "To soften it properly you would need to replace the entire rear suspension with 2010MY springs and a new transverse beam with anti roll bar incorporated."

There are now quality after market coil/shock units like the Bilstein's B14 PSS coilover kits with height ajustment. So, it would just be a matter of also getting the new traverse beam with anti-roll bar incorpoerated (from the model year 2010 forward ) and a 2008/09 500 would be transformed?

What it would cost would be more than swapping the car for one that was built that way. That is why you were advised to trade up to a 2010 model instead of trying to convert the older version.

The superior suspension was on Ford Ka from Job 1-it's now fitted to Fiats as well. The Ford Ka and the Fiat 500 are built on the same line, have identical drive trains-the only differences are slightly different bodyshell and,of course, badging.

OK - I'll a different approach. I can get a set of Bilstein coil over shocks to fit the car as a shoe-in replacement for the stock items. Done.

Now, is there anti-roll/stabiliser bar, Fiat or aftermarket, that can be fitted to a 2008/2009 Fiat 500?

Bilsteins are top notch stuff. Had Bilies on several rally cars as did ther friends with comp cars. They took some punishment. They'd be my choice. And probably more cost effective than buying parts from a dealer.
