Rover 25 1.6 2003 - Lpg spark plugs question - patrickviera
I am planning to replace the spark plugs as it has been 25k miles since last changed by previous owner. I have been told to use NGK spark plugs , now do the spark plugs need to be iridium coated, platinum or copper will do?also do the spark plugs need to be special type or brand just NGK plugs will do? And is any modification required such as altering the gap or do NGK already have this gap altered?

Iridium or Platinum seem to be the recommended item for LPG, however the copper cored will do the job just as well but supposedly wear quicker due to LPG burning hotter, though i haven't found this to be the case on my old MB.

At around 1/3rd the price or less of the others, and an easy peasy plug change anyway on the Rover, would make regularly replaced copper cores tempting.

The money saved on plugs made of Unobtainium could be spent on a flashlube kit if you don't already have one on the car.

No, i didn't take my own suggestion, changing the plugs on an Outback H6 is not a pleasant experience, 3 hours or so for all 6, so Platinums went in there for as long a life as possible..:)

the standard specified plugs for this engine are platinum with a 40k change interval (iirc). Just use these anyway - the same type of plugs (NGK) for my Saab only cost £20. Hardly bank breaking and a very small proportion of the running costs of any car!!! I've used NGK for years and have been very happy with them.
