Trade Cars - Southall - Anyone had any experience - Surrey_Scientist

Dear All,

I have a seen a very nice toyota estate advertised on autotrader at Trade Cars, Southall.

The website looks to be that of a regular car-dealer, but ever-suspicious I am worried about the factthat "Trade" appears in the name. The website does not say they are for trade vehicles (which would mewan I assume no warranty/comeback) but I wonder if they are calling themselves this as some type of devious way-round trading law. Eg if there was a problem they could claim "oh but we're clearly a trade business, not retail it says so in the title"

There are no reviews whatsoever on any websites I can find, neither positive nor negative.

Is there any other way of checking them out ?

Does anyone here have any experience of dealing with them or know of them eg by local reputation as you live round the corner ?

Cheers

Maybe they haven't been in business long enough to have any reviews? You can get a short company report for £1, on line, ar Companies House.

I have not used them but just in case you ponder whether they have been on that site long, they have been there according to their website for 25 years. I used to work in Southall and can confirm they have been there for that length of time. Just make sure you get an RAC or AA check done to be on the safe side.

I'm not sure that putting 'Trade' in your name allows you to evade any legal responsibilities you may have as a used car dealer.

I don't believe anyone thinks that it does. There is an implication, to me of cheap(er) prices. Think of the "Trade" counters at builders merchants and big main car dealers.

No experience with this particular seller, but a few years ago i bought a top end BMW from a garage in Southall, which looked from google "streetview" like a back street "del boy" establishment, I was fortunate to know a very highly qualified BMW mechanic, who came along as back-up, we looked at the car, he noted the reg no. and disappeared outside with his mobile phone. On returning he gave me an "auctioneer's wink" so i plunged in and bought. Later, diving through all the nooks and crannies i discovered that every component was stamped "BMW" , and even the half used bottle of windscreen wash was BMW supplied, and as discovered by the mech. every recall had been carried out, and the service history was all BMW works.

Moral - you can buy a dog from a main dealer, but you can also find a gem in a back street !

A.S. has beaten my comment on the word "trade" prob because i was looking for the car on Autotrader !, but he's right. Whatever the company name is, you, as a private buyer are covered by the trades description act. Only if you are a "Trader" yourself, are you deemed to have the knowledge to buy without any guarantee.

If i actually have found the car you are looking at, i would be waiting on the doorstep in the morning ( don't worry, I won't be , it's a bit small for me ! ) worst outcome a wasted journey, best one, a gem, and unless a close physical inspection throws up a nasty, i will be surprised if they have it long.

(AND ... don't forget your HPI checks) !

Good luck, nice car

Trade Cars Limited of Southall are listed, they show a decent credit risk, formed in 2005, no CCJs or adverse risk ratings. That doesn't mean they're good to go but it does confirm they seem to be a profitable going concern with decent financials. Most small car sales outlets would not report back so well but you should still buy with caution as you should wherever you shop.

That's g?ood. Many of these 'traders' don't even make it to filing their first year's accounts before a replacement business is spawned.

perhaps 10 years ago the company I used to work for purchased a BMW from them ... purchase was leased by leading finance company ... I don't recall any problems, I also considered a purchase for mysellf, but did not do so as the local dealer had a better offer for my needs.

I recall they often sold 'nearly new' cars, possibly the surpless or less popular spec cars that needed to be shifted outside the dealer network, I'm not sure

just in case there is a different company with a similar name nearby here is the web site for the company I have in mind .... http://www.trade-sales.co.uk/
