Advice re driving licence - greenhey

I hope someone can advise me.

I got my licence late 60s and had the paper version until the turn of the year, when we moved house and it went missing.

I applied to DVLA and was issued with a new photocard type.

I assume all new drivers now get one.

However in a few months I will be in the US and renting a car. Previously I have used my paper licence, which carries a record re endorsements, etc.

Will they accept the photocard alone, and if not how do I get DVLA to issue me with a corresponding paper licence? I have looked at their website and I am none the wiser.

Thanks

I did the same a few months ago. Just make sure you keep the green 'Counterpart Driving Licence' and present this as well as the card when you need to hire a car. I had no problem hiring a car from Avis in Aberdeen the other day.

You should have received 2 items - one being the photocard, and the other being the paper counterpart. You do need both. If you've only received the photocard, I'd suggest you get in touch with DVLA - and I'll wish you the very best of luck (and the patience of Job) in dealing with them !
