Toyota Yaris - Yaris serviceing at local independant? - rexmedorum

Just bought a used 2007 Yaris, the 1.3 petrol. It's not due a service for a while but I was just wondering where I'm going to get it serviced I've god an independant down the road that helped me out well when the altenatoron my VW polo packed up but I've never used the for service yet.

I have no idea if the Toyoa dealer will be expensive, though they are a bit out of my way.

When I've bought a used car in the past, the very first thing that happens is an oil, oil filter and air filter change. Unless it's been stamped within the last 5,000 miles as serviced by a main agent in which case it's (hopefully) been done properly.

What is the service interval on those cars ? Here you'll find a lot of people who really think the 15-20k intervals is just asking for trouble. Changing oil and filter at ever 9-10k is pretty cheap, and is the one thing that will make a huge difference to the life expectancy of any car.

Regarding the Toyota main agent servicing : give them a call, ask for a price. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Absolutely get a price from Toyota.

I run 2 Toyota's and both are dealer serviced. I like the cars to be serviced to the manufactures spec and after comparing the cost of the dealer and a trusted independent there was pennies in the cost difference. ( by the time the independent used the Toyota specified oil)

They also offer reasonable service plans. Our iQ is serviced annually for £14 per month. The Auris does 25k ish a year and that costs me £27.50 per month. This includes a free MOT.

Toyota servicing is usually so reasonably priced that it's hardly worth bothering with an indy, i'd always find a smaller family owned, more rural or small town dealer if poss, but that goes for any make.

Mr T has never jumped on the current bandwagon starship oil change intervals others (that eat timing chains but that hardly matters with a 3 year warranty and yo' on yo' own sucker) specify, that Yaris is probably around 9k mile/12 month service intervals with oil and filter change every time.

Yeah, I agree entirely about the service intervals. Purely designed for the fleet market who get rid at 60k/3 yrs. I've got a new F31 BMW 3 series estate, and it's still going to be getting an oil and filter every 9k miles. Surprisingly, BMW dealers are barely more expensive than independent garages, which is why I suggested to the OP to give Toyota a try.
