VW Trekker - Classic VW Beetle Engine Number? - Kildrummy

I know where the engine number is supposed to be, below the dynamo pedestal under the firing order but on my engine there is no number. I have wire brushed the area clean but can find no numbers. any suggestions?

The engine is a 1600cc twin port
