Kia Cee'd 1.6 CRDi (126bhp) 2 - Deal or no deal on ex-demo car? 62 Reg for £13,859 - tannoy

I haven't owned a car for about 10 years now, just hired the odd car when I need one. I'm about to become a dad for the first time so I think owning a car and the convenience it'll give me and my family is worth it.

I've just been into a Kia dealership and test drove an ex-demo car. It was registed in November 2012, it has 6,467 mileage, diesel, manual, drives well. Because Kia effectively own it, I'd be the 2nd owner, Kia would reset the 7 year warranty on the day of purchase. The price includes free mats, Gap insurance (guaranteeing the price I paid for it if the car was written off), DiamondBrite interior and exterior.

I've haggled to get it down to £13,859 - they wouldn't come down much.

Is this a good deal? I want to make a decision later today or tomorrow. The 7 year warranty seems excellent. That'd give me worry-free motoring until October 2020.

Thanks for your help.

We have had a Ceed SW now for just over 3 years. No problems, cracking car.

As for if its a good deal or not look for similar cars on the interweb and see what they are priced like. Considering a brand new Ceed 2 CRDi can be had for under £17000 (probably less if you look hard) £3000 is not much of a saving on a 1 year old car.

If you decide to buy it make sure they give it the first service before you take delivery and stamp the paint and body bits of the service book, its due in November. New model Ceeds only require a service every 20000 miles but require an inspection every 12 months if you do a low annual mileage. Miss the service/inspections and its goodbye 7 year warranty.

One thing to be aware of, many dealers sell ex hire cars as ex demonstrators. Not really anything to worry about but I hate it when dealers lie.

Heres one with delivery miles on a 62 plate for £11,995.

So your deal looks very expensive.

Not comparable. The one in the link is the old model with much less power and equipment.

I've agreed a price of £13,490 and that's with the first year's service done & service book stamped before free delivery next week. With the gap insurance and 7 years warranty reset, I think Kia are pretty confident that the cars a goodun. I queried the usage of the car beforehand - they said a senior Kia executive used the car beforehand as a their personal vehicle, mainly for commuting to and from work.

Not having bought a car for a quite a while and certainly not this new or spec, I think it's as good a deal I'll get for worry-free motoring. Brand new, this exact model and spec is about £18.5k.

This article was an interesting read too and kind of helped me make the decision: http://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/oct/08/why-britain-cant-stop-buying-new-cars

Price is nothing special for a 1 year old example.

Good car, hope it works out well.
