Nissan Micra - Removing Timing Chain Sprockets - westburry

Hi

I'm in the process of replacing the Timing Chain in my Nissan Micra 1998 1.0L.

Do the Sprockets come out of easy enough i.e. removing the bolt and sprocket from the

camshaft or can it be difficult it's something I've haven't done before.I was going to take it to a garage to have it done but it's something I'd like to have a go at myself.

Also I have the Oil Sump off at the moment and I'm wondering if it is wise to leave the Oil Sump off for a number of days as possibly the weather could get to the inside of the engine and possible cause corrosion.

Id be grateful for your help.

Thanks

Patrick

Have you a Haynes or other guide?

IIRC, I've told you IME it's only necessary to replace the top chain and tensioner.

These things go on clattering away forever.

Hiya

Yeah I got the Haynes book...The way I was reading it was you had to take the timing cover off to get to the idle sprocket or am I wrong.

I've been driving around with the noise for a year maybe more now. it seems to have gotten worse now You can notice it in the speed and acceleration of the car.

What abou me leaving the oil sump off ?
