Passat CC 2.0TDI DSG - Passat CC bootlid filling up with water - Mr Fox

I have a Passat CC, is coming to the end of its 4 year Lease, and is out of warranty.

Two things recently happened, the black plastic trim on the top of the bootlid hs developed a small crack, and there appear to be several others developing, there are visible marks. No apparent cause for this.

Second is that in last nights heavy rain, the bootlid has filled up with water, so when I opened it this morning water poured out of the covers for the tail lights inside.

Wonder if these could be linked.

The plastic has definately cracked on its own, in the sun, nothing has come into contact with it and I only noticed it yesterday, the day before there was no crack.

Has anyone else had this ? Any use in going to VW ?

I didn't have any cracks in the trim, but when I had my CC the lights access covers inside the bootlid did fill up with water that would pour out after long periods of rain when the bootlid was opened.

Water also used to sit on the rubber trim at the point where the plastic trim met the rubber on the edge of the boot. For all its aesthetically pleasing looks the boot lid design was lacking I thought.

Hi. I have a Black 2010 Passatt CC and at the end of July (car was just over 3 years old), I noticed a crack about midway through the plastic piece on top of the boot lid. On searching other VW owner fora I quickly found that this same fault has been regulalry found in hot overseas countries (Australia, Middle East and in the US)-in those countries the plastic part was replaced under warranty.

I showed the defect to a plastics expert I know and he is firmply of the opinion that its a part/assembly failure.

I contacted VW in the UK through my dealer but because they say this fault has never been reported in the UK they say its not their fault and therefore its not covered under Warranty. Interestingly the replacement part in hot counties is plastic. VW UK refused to escalate the issue to VW in Germany. After much arguing VW have agreed to fund 50% of the repair but I am not giving up as I know other UK owners of black Passatt CCs will have this same problem and when enough of us report the problem to VW UK they will treat it as a defect and will repair under warranty. VW UK maintain that the crack has been caused my me-absolutely not the case!!!!

Have you been to a dealer yet-it would be most helpful if you did to see what the Dealer says. You should ask the dealer to escalate to VW UK as this would be the 2nd crack notified in the UK.

I would really appreciate you getting in touch as I believe we can help each other.

Passat CC 2.0TDI boot trim, below rear window, cracked! - Whirlwind
Hi I have a black CC, 2010, just weeks out of warranty saw 2 cracks in trim. Contacted local VW who took photos and then said 'sorry not a manufactures fault' although I did refer them to some forums in USA...but they dismissed them as not valid in UK.

I asked for it to be escalated to VW customer services and have a reference number, having discussed with the local dealer for some good will, the customer services team pushed back. I have asked for it to be escalated to a Case Manager and am awaiting a response.

In the meantime I have a quote from VW for the work, £735!! Interestingly the quote states 'the part number of the trim has been superseded which would suggest it has been modified'. I am just about to ask them why they think the part has been modified?!

If anyone else has problem please log in to forum, AND register 'fault' with VW and get a case reference .... There must be more out there and we need VW to acknowledge this is part is not 'fit for purpose'!

The price to replace this was about £200.00 Including fitting.

Dealer seemed to never have seen it before.... But lent me an Audi A5 whilst they had it in , distraction tactic maybe ????

There was also some wrangling between the VW Dealer and the lease co.

Car is dark grey metallic called mocha anthracite. Almost black

Thanks for your reply, could you let me know dealership and region of country?

Big difference in pricing between £200 and £700+! Guess leasing company has more negotiating power than private owner :(

Re. Crack in boot I have the same problem, also Black CC!

Have you got a resolution?!

I'm in touch with VW customer services but no progress so far!

Hi I have exactly this same problem with my black VW Passat CC, 59 reg. In July I reported this issue to local volkswaven dealership. After two months of deceiving, VW eventualy refused to fix the crack as they don't believe it should be their concern. First they even tried to put the blame on me, but they didn't find any reason. Instead I printed them several forum conversations from different countries (Europe and USA) to prove I am not the only one having this problem. Still no progress so far.

Today I reported this issue to general VW UK. I am currently waiting for their reply. If this does not help, I am planning to escalate the case further to VW Germany.

I think the problem is because of the hot weather in UK this year. Previous years were not as hot so the problem didn't occur. In Europe and USA summers are usually hotter and hence the problem developed there over last years. I think VW UK should admit the blame and fix the problem.

Please let me know how are you doing with your case.

This happened during the very hot weather in July.

The dealership was Chesterfield Volkswagen. The car is leased through Lex. Now when it happened they ordered he part, and told me it was a very quick job to fit it.

Lex refused to give the go ahead at first then asked our company to pay it.

Pretty sure the part was £125 and fitting was £85.....

All the way along the part there were some other small marks which looked like cracks opening up. Just one crack right in the centre.

VW have a track record of trying to not covering known faults until the publicity snowballs. Look at the PD injectors debacle.

Hi

Can you please let me know whether any of you raised complaint to the dealer and whether they were helpful at al? Mine VW Stockport was completely useless. They didn't want to accept the claim as they state that car was outside the manufacture warranty. They didn't want to accept the fact that the crack happened because of the weakness in design. They also didn't accept that this fault is common in these cars and accept to fix free of charge in other countries. I even contacted UK VW but still with no success.

Is there any other way to convince VW to take responsibility for their faults?

Dont buy a VW ever again or anything from their group including audi, skoda or seat.

That is how you win.

And write to honest john both on this forum and the telegraph.

No harm in sending a detailed report to watchdog.
