Corsa B 2000 Envoy - DIY aftermarket sunroof fit - jikky

I have bought a universal sunroof and intend to fit it to my Corsa B.

It is an aftermarket item intended for the older cars with the softer or thinner head lining.

My concern is how to finish the job neatly inside the car, as the roof lining on these modern cars seems so much thicker and more solid (unlike the older cars, where the roof was thin and headlining could be easily trimmed around the sunroof rubber)

Is the roof lining on modern cars too thick to accomodate these older sunrooves and would you advise against tackling this?

Another concern is that with the pre-stressed thin steel used in cars these days would it cause a weakness to cut into the roof?

Any advice would be appreciated

Thank you

Ian

Suggest you check with your insurance company before fitting it. They will class it as a modification and may charge extra. Since by cutting the roof you will be potentially affecting the strength of the car they may not allow this modification.

Correctly fitted these roofs should be fine but as you say yourself it was intended to be used in older cars and not a modern vehicle.

In addition to the above:-

My BiL used to be a sunroof fitter(many, many years ago) and he was requested to attend court as an "expert witness" where a sunroof company was being sued because it had fitted roofs that were too large for the cars they were fitted to and were weakening the structure.
