1.4 - Citroen Xsara 1.4 Temp light & Stop Sign on - clairew137

My temperature gauge goes up - as soon as it gets to the last white mark before the red - the temp light and stop sign comes on and it beeps at me. Temp keeps going up into the red. But if you keep driving and ignore it after a few seconds all warnings stop and temp starts dropping until it goes back to normal of 90.

I've had the thermostat changed last week, so it's not that.

Does anyone have any ideas please?

Sounds like the engine cooling fan is not working.

Yes upon looking at the front of the car one of the fans the low speed one is not turning at all. You would think my mechanic would've checked the fans as well. When it gets really hot the second fan the high speed one cuts in but it seems it can't cool it down very quickly.

Not sure if it's the actual fan or wiring to it but hubby going to take a look tomorrow. I feel it is currently undrivable as running hot far too often.

might be worth giving the cooling system a thorough flush and refill with fresh coolant in case there's a partial blockage somewhere or an air lock.
