I have been spending a lot of time with a mate taking him to look for a new or newish car.

He seems to tust my judgement a bit.

It seems that unless you go quite bit upmarket there are very few choices where the seat covers are not black. Only one we have seen is an MGHS trophy with the optional Tan leather that is within his budget.

It's been like that for some years - I particularly can't abide all black interior including headlining but with no sunroof.

When I ordered my VW Touareg in 2015, I specified cream leather trim, including carpets and headlining as well as panoramic sunroof - easily wiped clean even after a muddy day out birdwatching.

To say nothing of the exteriors ! But there seems to be a move towards grey (also boring).

My 1991 Pug 205 has been black from birth (special order) but at least the seats are pale grey.

There is a particular colour used by VW that looks like asphalt, and cars with it almost disappear into the road.

Quite like grey as a paint colour, ford and I think Audi done one that I can only describe as shiny primer, looked good imho.

Very few car seats are truly black, most are various shades of grey.

If you fancy some colour without going up market, the mini in Cooper spec is available with some colourful combos. I drove a friend's brand new fiat 500 last week, he'd opted for a cream interior, seats included, thought it looked lovely, complemented the dark blue paint and "chrome" trim wonderfully and although tiny it drove great.

It's all the rage!

Volvo call it Vapour Grey, BMW Brooklyn Grey, Honda, Porsche do one too

One of the reasons I liked the Mazda MX-30 R-EV I have as a second car is the different colours and textures in the interior.

The seats are a Tweedy grey (made from recycled denim), the door cappings are speckly grey (made from recycled bottle tops), the centre console has a cork surround (made from recycled errr.. corks) and the centre armrest and areas of the door trims are blondie cream leather effect. The rest is a dense looking squishy black plastic. Sounds horrendous but looks really classy.

No idea of your mate’s budget or requirements, but have a look at the Iconic grade of Renault 5 which has yellow seat facings.
Or Techno grade of Renault 4 which has blue seat facings in a denim type material with gold stitching to resemble a pair of jeans. Not seen a Techno yet, so reserving judgement.

Budget to £30k + discounts. Petrol manual but hybrid at a limit poss auto with hybrid.

Pure leccy... answer too rude to print. Told him to get some fully tailored seat covers in a colour he wants for a couple of hundred quid and any of the cars he's seen.

Tuscon advance 1.6 T with the new dashboard with proper controls for aircon and radio.

Not my cuppa tea stylewise outside inside ok for me but also with seat covers. but ticks the boxes for him except for seat covers.

Unfortunately, Mazda seemed to have dropped the stone (light cream effectively) leather interior option. I have a 23 plate CX-30 with this and with the light headlining, it has a really nice and airy interior. There are lot of soft touch materials around the interior including the door cappings which tend to be hard plastic on so many cars. Apart from the styling of a car, the interior has a big influence on my buying.
