Peugeot 206 2.0 HDi LX, year 2001 - Peugeot 206 speedo problems - Grenache

Hello,

The speedo in my trusty 206 has stopped working. The problem started at the start of a day, not during a journey.

When I turn the ignition on, the needle on the speedo goes from the 'at rest' position to the zero mark, sugesting the display part is OK.

I got and fitted a new sender part that connect to the drive, and checked the drive gearing is ok, not damaged, etc.

However that didn't cure the problem.

Does that mean the whole instrument panel needs replaced, or a wiring problem in-between? How do I test it?

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Does the odometer clock up the miles driven?

No, it doesn't

Take the gear drive out the gearbox and spin it with a drill. See if the speedo needle moves .

Thanks for your help. I'll try that. If that doesn't work, what would you suggest?

Is there any way of testing the sensor or the speedo ammeter, could I use a multimeter to test it?

you can do some basic testing at the sensor plug with a digi meter. I guess there are 3 wires, one is ignition power supply, one is an earth and the other is a signal out to the speedo.

A common fault on the Citroen XM was dry joints on the instrument panel PCB, generally where the edge connectors were. I you can get the panel out examine the joints carefully with a magnifying glass, if you see any cracked ones resolder them.
